Dr. Shelley Mathias Recommended as Principal of Edmunds Elementary School
Jeanne Collins, Superintendent of Burlington Schools, announced today that she is recommending Dr. Shelley Mathias as the principal of Edmunds Elementary School in Burlington. Dr. Mathias has been serving in the role of Interim Principal this year and was chosen for this position after an extensive search process which included parents, teachers and administrators.
“Dr Mathias is the right fit for Edmunds Elementary School at this time. She blends listening to the community and parents with bringing in new ideas with her faculty and her students. She has been an effective Interim Principal and will now be able to continue that work in the coming years. I am pleased to recommend her for the position.”
Dr Mathias brings a varied background to this position. Her career has spanned from business to finance to education, where she has served as a teacher, gifted and talented coordinator, and principal prior to coming to Burlington in July 2011. Her experiences have shaped her approach to the work of leading an elementary school in the largest city in VT. One reference described her as “a keen ability to effectively plan and execute complex projects in a range of areas including budget management, school improvement, professional development, and school action planning ….has prepared her well to address a complex variety of school projects…”
