September 2009

1. Welcome/Introductions
2. Thank you’s for Spruce-up Week

The PTO would like to thank all of the parents, teachers, staff, and Lowe’s volunteers for their work on the bathrooms and school grounds. The folks at Lowe’s are planning to install a new message board soon. We discussed how we could formally thank Lowe’s and the paint supplier, who donated all of the paint. Lara will ask Ms. Lamont about getting the kids to make a card. Melissa will get a sheet cake that we can send to the break room at Lowe’s. Paul suggested putting together a slideshow and holding an assembly.
3. PTO Budget
We went over the proposed budget in detail.
4. Welcome Back BBQ
The EES PTO is hosting this year’s BBQ on September 25th. Holly Zanes is coordinating. Volunteers are needed for the following tasks: picking up food from Costco, set-up, grill crew, decorations, and clean-up.
5. Skate Night
The annual PTO skate night will be held Saturday, October 3rd from 4 pm to 6:30 pm. We need someone to coordinate the pizza and drinks.
6. Sports Swap
The second annual PTO sports swap will take place sometime in October. Warren Cornwall agreed to coordinate, with guidance from Melissa.
7. Ronald McDonald House
We have selected the RMH as our community service project again this year. Melissa is coordinating and will be going around to all of the classrooms to let the teachers and kids know about it. We also discussed the RMH grant and how we should proceed. Laura Fetters agreed to coordinate the grant process. She will bring information to the next PTO meeting.
8. Anti-Idling School Coordinator
The city is hiring a short-term contractor to further their educational outreach. For more information, contact Jennifer Green at
9. Fall Fundraising Update
Order forms for Innisbrook wrapping paper and Vermont Coffee have gone home. Sandy is coordinating.
10. Fall Walk to School Event
October is national walk to school month. We discussed doing something on our own (as opposed to the Safe Route to Schools program). Ideas included tracking distance walked and graphing the results, and an assembly. Linda and Ann and Valerie will coordinate.
11. Room Parents
We are still looking for room parents for the following classes: Bellavance, Fagan, and McMorris.
12. Grocery Store Fundraising
The PTO earns money each year by registering with local grocery stores. Lisa will handle the registrations.
