Hi everyone!
Thanks to all who attended the Welcome Back BBQ last Friday. Also, a huge thank you to all of the volunteers who made it all possible. What a great way to start out the new school year!

Tomorrow night (Thursday, September 20) is the spaghetti dinner and Open House at Edmunds.
Dinner is served at 5:30 in the EES cafeteria and is free and open to all Edmunds families. Open house in classrooms follows from 6-7 pm.

WAY TO GO CHALLENGE: WALK AND ROLL TO SCHOOL: 25 Sept.-O6 Oct.

Get ready to Walk-n-Roll in the state-wide Way to Go! Challenge.

  • Let’s cut our carbon and have fun getting to school on our own muscle power–walk, bike, scooter, skateboard, etc.
  • If your parents drive you, have them drop you off a couple of blocks from school and walk the rest of the way–every little bit counts!
  • We’ll be competing with schools across the state for the coveted Carbon Cup Award. Let’s bring it to Edmunds!
  • Students and staff will track their modes of transportation to and from school each day during the challenge. Our coordinator will enter our data and we can track our progress.
  • Questions, please contact Peggy: peggyov5 or Rachel: rachskye

EDMUNDS WALKS AND ROLLS ON OPEN STREETS
Open Streets is a free city program that provides the people of
Burlington a chance to explore miles of urban streets in a safe car-
free environment. We want to bring Edmunds families together to
celebrate Open Streets and showcase a new demonstration project
with a designated bus stop and protected bike lane in front of our
school.
When: Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 11:30 am
Where: Meet on S. Union Street in front of EMS
Who: Any and all EES and EMS students, families and school community
members (that means teachers, staff and principals, too!).
Why: To celebrate Open Streets in Burlington, kick off the Edmunds pop-up
bus stop zone and protected bike lane demo, and the Way to Go! School
Challenge.
How: Don’t have a bike? No worries! Walkers, strollers, wheelchairs,
skateboards and all people-powered vehicles welcome (just no cars).
What’s the route: Edmunds to Sustainability Academy, which is about a 10-
minute bike ride at an easy pace. We’ll walk and roll along Union Street then
turn left on North Street and head to S.A. At our arrival, you can have a bike-
blended smoothie, and then explore all the fun and cool activities on car-free
streets!
Contact: Peggy: peggyov5 (EES, EMS, BHS parent) or Rachel:
rachskye (EES, EMS parent).

August 21, 2018

Hi everyone!

We hope you are all enjoying this last bit of summer vacation and are getting excited about returning to Edmunds for a great school year.

The following are important dates and times for next week and beyond:

Tuesday, August 28, 11-2: "Green Up" at the grounds of Edmunds Elementary. Children are welcome to attend and help out, but must be accompanied by an adult.

Tuesday, August 28, 3-4: Ice cream social.

Wednesday, August 29th is the first day of school! There will be a coffee hour on the front lawn of school from 8:15-9:15.

*Dismissal on Wednesday the 29th is at 1:50. Note that every other day of the week, dismissal is at 2:50. Wednesday dismissal is always at 1:50.

Friday, September 14th, 5:30-7:00 pm: Welcome Back BBQ.

Volunteer opportunities:

We still need a couple more scoopers for the ice cream social. If you can help out, please contact Stacey Kelleher at staceyhk1568.

Traffic circle helpers: Have you ever wondered who are those amazing people who help our kids get out of our cars and safely into school each morning? They are the excellent traffic circle helpers and they are parents just like you! We are looking for traffic circle helpers for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This is a great volunteer gig because it is very well-defined and consistent: 8:00-8:15 one day a week. If you are interested, please contact Stefanie Waite at waite.

And finally…

Parents can vote for Burlington online for a JetBlue grant that could benefit the Fletcher Free Library with a $25,000 purchase in books for kids, and a $5000 reading room renovation! The link is: soarwithreading.com. Check it out on the library website at fletchfree.org, and here’s a link to a recent Free Press article:

https://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/news/local/vermont/2018/08/16/burlington-trailing-bid-25-k-grant-fletcher-free-library/998524002/

We’ll need folks to vote A LOT between now and August 31st because people can vote AS MANY TIMES AS POSSIBLE! The library is such a wonderful resource for Edmunds kids, and the grant would really benefit our kids and community in an immediate and powerful way.

Thanks, and hope to see you all at the upcoming events!

Jenny Sullivan, Pamela Moreau and Stacey Kelleher

EES/EMS PTO meeting on Capital Improvements.

May 2, 2018
Special Joint EMS-EES PTO Meeting to Discuss Capital Improvements and Construction
Wednesday, May 9th TIME 6:30  , EES Cafeteria

At the April 10, 2018 the School District facilities team presented their latest ideas in the capital plan which includes a substantial overhaul of Building C (the cafeteria) at Edmunds, as well as the construction of a new roadway through campus. The School District wants to present their plans to the school community, and solicit vital feedback on the proposed plans for the Edmunds Campus.

Join us to see how these plans could work for our school community. We encourage you to visit the site: http://www.bsdvt.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/FY18-Capital-Project-Update.pdf to get a glimpse of some of the proposed changes and come with questions and concerns.  Changes include:

  • ADA accessibility
  • A new elevator
  • Makerspace (grant funded) at EMS
  • New dedicated cafeteria space and kitchen
  • Single entrance
  • A roadway cutting through the green space on the Main Street side
  • And more…

Your input is important. Let’s help shape the capital investments for our schools – for all our children.

Childcare will be provided upon request
